Taxpayers who may be eligible for the Earned Income Credit (EIC) but did not claim it on their returns receive IRS Notification CP27. With the exception of the fact that CP27 is given to taxpayers who do not have qualified dependents, this notification and CP09 are quite similar.

In Case You are Eligible:

  • First, you sign and date the worksheet.
  • Then using the envelope that is provided you have to mail the completed worksheet.
  • The IRS will send your refund in 6-8 weeks. But, your refund might be used to offset any unpaid taxes or other debts owed to the government.

In Case You are not Eligible:

  • Don’t go back to the worksheet.. No extra steps are required.
